Cyber security update

We wanted to provide another update on the unfortunate cyber security incident that occurred in late December 2023. This incident involved a sophisticated cyber fraud, in the form of several payments to one of our partners, a national affordable housing investment fund.

We have since learned that cyber-attacks and scams have occurred at a number of other charities and institutions.  According to a national survey by Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP), 59 percent of charitable organizations encountered phishing or email scams, while 41 percent have faced fake invoices or billing scams.

A few important points:

Thank you to our donors, staff, Board and all our constituents for their ongoing diligence, communication and support. We continue to be transparent in hopes that other organizations can learn from our experiences, and to live out our value of accountability.

We have met and spoken with many donors and constituents to answer their specific questions and we will continue to do so. If you would like to discuss this further, we encourage you to contact us directly so that you can hear from us, first-hand, about any aspects of concern or interest.
